Film Review: Cry Freedom

1.-Who was your favorite character from the film? Why?

My favorite character of the film was obviously Steve Biko. He was a really strong and wise man that tried to teach others they value and that they needed and were responsible for their liberation, empowering black and white South Africans equally. He used his brain to think of solutions and with his words he made white people doubt the apartheid, something quite difficult considering that they were in a privileged position. He also took in consideration not only black people, but also everyone considered as "non white". I truly admire him, because I am a strong believer that peace and every kind of agreement can be reached through words and never violence.

The other character that I really liked was Doctor Ramphele, she was so brave and precise with her words. Her role was amazing

2.-What was your favorite scene from the film? Why?

I have to say that I loved the moments in which Donald remembered the things that Biko taught him, they were so moving. It was a proof of how deep he touched Woods feeling through his words and I always love when someone has the strength in their words to change people for good, because it shows that peace is posible trought verbal agreement and the person soul convictions.

I also liked the scene in which Woods was running away, it was so tense, I thought that he would be captured the entire time.

3.-How does the film differs from the other films?

It differs from the others because it portrays the life of a South African that was not a member of the ANC. I think that is really important, because in the struggle against apartheid fought a lot of people outside that faction, and they need to be recognized, so that all the world can see the results of their efforts. It also portrayed Bikos ideas of how the social structure of the capitalist society strengthened the establishment of the apartheid.
